Tom and Joanna Moore, Bob Boucher, Karen DeFalco, Jay Crutcher and their neighbors are working to find the source of contamination of more than 33 private drinking water wells in their neighborhood. High levels of the banned pesticides chlordane and dieldrin were found in wells last May. Since then, the families have formed North Stamford Concerned Citizens for the Environment (NSCCE) and turned out more than 150 people to their first community meeting.
While NSCEE is researching potential sites of contamination, Toxics Action Center is working with the group to organize their neighbors to demand clean, safe drinking water for all families in the neighborhood from the city. NSCCE is also calling for testing of potential contamination sites and proper remediation to prevent further contamination and protect public health.
