Permitted Air Polluters: An Explanation

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) requires that any source of air pollution that is constructed, installed, or enlarged must be permitted by the Commissioner of the DEP.

In the entire state, there are 5,153 sources of air pollution that are currently permitted to operate.

These sources include fossil fuel power plants, incinerators, asphalt plants, crematoria, and manufacturing facilities.

This list comes from a database maintained by the Air Bureau of the Connecticut DEP.
