Superfund Sites: An Explanation

The Superfund program is the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) program to cleanup the most seriously contaminated hazardous waste sites in the country. These are the sites that pose the greatest threat to human health and the environment. These sites represent the EPA's highest priorities for cleanup nationwide.

The National Priority List (NPL) is a list of the nation's most seriously contaminated sites. There are approximately 1,200 NPL sites. 14 of these sites are in Connecticut.
