State Superfund Sites: An Explanation

The Federal Superfund program was established in 1980 to cleanup the most seriously contaminated hazardous waste sites in the country.

There is a similar program in Connecticut to cleanup the most contaminated sites in the state called the State Superfund Priority List.

The State Superfund Priority List is a list of hazardous waste disposal sites deemed eligible for expenditure of state funds to clean up the sites. This list is made up of the hazardous waste sites which the CT DEP has found pose the greatest threat to human health and the environment.

There are 11 State Priority List Sites. Of these 11 sites, 2 are Federal Superfund sites.
